Miss Charm and Cyclops

Eleanor Kondratyuk lived in Sochi with her parents. There she graduated from high school, entered the university and almost immediately after that she became a finalist of the Miss Sochi-1998 contest. Eleanor became Miss Charm.

It seemed that Kondratyuk's successful career was assured. However, her life was crossed out by her acquaintance with a certain Ruben Grigoryan, who at that time was 32 years old. Grigoryan was associated with the criminal world and even had the nickname Cyclops, as he had one eye injured. A few months after Eleanor competed in a beauty pageant, Cyclops began to persuade her to have an intimate relationship. But Kondratyuk refused him.

Attack near the school

On September 2, 1999, Eleanor went to the Sochi beach. Passing the school where Kondratyuk once studied, she felt like someone grabbed her from behind by the hair. The girl threw back her head. According to Eleanor herself, in the end she managed to see only the blue sky. After that, everything turned brown, and severe pain burned through my face and body.

Kondratyuk, somehow opening her eyes, ran to the school door. The teachers who taught the girl for many years did not immediately recognize her: the face of the former student was terribly disfigured. Eleanor herself did not understand what had happened to her. The teachers gave her first aid and called an ambulance.

The doctors found out that the victim was doused with concentrated sulfuric acid. Moreover, the acid was mixed with vegetable oil to heighten the "effect". Experts believed that the 4th degree burns that Kondratyuk received as a result would most likely be fatal. Eleanor's skin, hair, nose, eyes, and respiratory tract were damaged.

Life after acid

In the meantime, the identities of two perpetrators of this crime were identified. And they were hired by the previously mentioned Ruben Grigoryan. Shortly before the massacre, Cyclops went to Yaroslavl in order to provide himself with an alibi. He promised the accomplices that for the mutilated Eleanor they would receive a monetary reward in the amount of 3 thousand dollars. All three were detained. Grigoryan's assistants received 6 years each, and he himself was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Eleanor Kondratyuk survived. She underwent about 200 operations: her nose was restored, skin and hair transplanted. Despite the efforts of the doctors, it was not possible to restore the patient's eyesight. Kondratyuk still sees only blurry silhouettes. Even today, after 19 years, she constantly wears sunglasses and gloves.

However, Eleanor was able to overcome all difficulties and continues to do so. Recently, Kondratyuk even wrote a book called "I choose life."
