Chief Physician of the Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital named after Botkin Denis Gusev told "Petersburg Diary" about the actions in case of full workload of the medical facility.

According to him, currently 589 beds (99%) are filled in the hospital, as well as all 34 intensive care beds.

“Almost all the beds are occupied. But the process is dynamic, the check-out takes place, somewhere from lunch to evening. That is, 50-60 people are discharged, and at the same moment the beds are filled. Here are the data for yesterday, December 17: 60 people were discharged, 57 went to these beds,”said the head physician of the St. Petersburg hospital.

He said that the hospital is making every effort to free beds, but not to the detriment of patients.

“We are doing everything so that the bed is emptied faster, so that a person who is clearly improving can be treated at home or go to medical or non-medical rehabilitation, and the person who needs inpatient treatment lies on the bed,” Gusev explained.

He noted that severe patients need about 21 days to recover, and people with moderate severity - 10-14 days with an uncomplicated course of the disease.

“We do not always discharge home, we can send further for medical rehabilitation,” the chief physician of the Botkin hospital clarifies.

Earlier, "Nevskie Novosti" reported that in St. Petersburg, about 160 million rubles were sent to purchase equipment in the intensive care unit of the Botkin hospital.
