The mobile version of MOBA League of Legends: Wild Rift has been in open beta testing for several months, and during this time it has managed to receive updates with champions and various functionality. Ahead of us is a global release and a release on consoles, so the game is essentially still at the beginning of its journey. We contacted Riot Games for an interview to ask a few questions, and the company happily agreed. Game Director Alan Moore and Head of Communications Ben Forbes answered questions.

Hello. Tell us about the launch of League of Legends: Wild Rift in Europe and how successful the game has been? Are you satisfied with the results?

Alan: We are very pleased with the launch of the game in Europe and the reaction of the players.

Honestly, despite the BETA status, the game looks great already. But when exactly are you ready to release it?

Alan: Despite the fact that the game was released in Europe, we still have many other countries in which we have to launch the game. When we launch everywhere and feel that the game is in excellent condition, then we will be ready for a full release.

The rating system is markedly different from the one in the PC-League. Why couldn't you just reschedule something that has worked great for many years?

Alan: Changes in the rating system usually happen for two reasons. Firstly, WR is primarily a mobile game and we want to offer a gaming experience that is truly worthy for mobile players. This is why you see things like short seasons. Secondly, the rank system for the PC version of League of Legends was created a long time ago. We had the opportunity to address some of the things that just confuse new players and simplify them, such as replacing the LP system.

What are the top priorities for developers now?

Alan: In the short term, we focused on improving matchmaking and pinging as much as possible, and creating new events and champions. We are also working to give players more freedom in determining their position in the game.

For some reason, there is no Rammus in the changelog of patch 2.1. Does this mean that it should not be expected before April?

Alan: * In the voice of Rammus * Okay.

We already know how Katarina will change with her appearance in Wild Rift. Will the other announced champions like Diana, Leona and Pantheon be changed?

Alan: Katarina got the biggest changes. Leona, Pantheon, Shai and Rakan's abilities have been carried over to Wild Rift as they are. For Diana, we wanted to make her end up feeling more "lunar" - in WR, opponents are attracted to her in a spiral when you use your ultimate.

In the PC League, after completing the task, the reward is automatically credited. However, in Wild Rift, players have to pick up rewards on their own by going to the necessary sections. Are you planning to simplify this process?

Alan: Yes, we would like to simplify the process of players passing events. It may not be the same as on PC, but it gets better.

Now in the same team can be players with "gold", "silver", and sometimes "bronze". Many consider this to be dishonest and blame the selection of the team for their defeats. Will you be changing matchmaking?

Alan: Yes, we are working on it. It is difficult to balance the composition of the team and the waiting time for the match, but we agree that the large spread in the ranks may seem unfair to the players, even if the teams are usually similar. We are working on this and make changes quite often during the matchmaking process.

We already know about exclusive skins for Wild Rift. But what about exclusive modes? Will there be any fun modes for the mobile version at least for a limited time?

Alan: We don't have any announcements yet, but we have some ideas for the future!

Sooner or later, the most active players, and especially those investing real money, will buy up all the champions. On PC, extra Blue Essence can be spent on new rune pages and nickname changes, but Wild Rift doesn't have such features. Are you introducing new merchandise for Blue Essence to the store, or is this currency exclusively for buying champions?

Alan: We are planning to release about two champions a month, so we think players will have a lot of champions that they will be happy to buy over the long term. Additional Blue Essence came to PC long after launch, and if that becomes what players need, we will definitely consider the issue.

You've had an Ask Riot column for a long time, where you answer questions from League of Legends players. There is something similar about Valorant. Should we wait for a similar section dedicated to Wild Rift?

Alan: We'll definitely take care of this when Wild Rift has as many players as possible, but before launching in all regions, we will fully focus on the game.

It is clear that you cannot share any information about the console version of Wild Rift at this time. But can you at least answer how long it takes for news?

Ben: We won't have any news for a while.
