Over the past year, more than a million cases of infectious diseases were recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the press service of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor told Vremya N news agency.

In the structure of all morbidity, the share of influenza and ARVI was 92%, other nosological forms of infectious diseases account for 8%.

Most of the nosological forms of infectious and parasitic diseases decreased compared to the previous year, with the exception of leptospirosis (an increase of 1.9 times), community-acquired pneumonia (an increase of 2.2 times) and acute upper respiratory tract infections (an increase of 21%), which is mainly associated with the widespread circulation of coronaviruses.

Also in the past year, the incidence of dysentery (3.8 times), acute intestinal infections of bacterial etiology (3 times), acute intestinal infections of viral etiology (1.6 times), enterovirus infection (18 times), serous meningitis significantly decreased. (29 times), measles (9.4 times) and whooping cough (2.2 times).

“Among the possible reasons for the decrease in infectious diseases, the complex of preventive and anti-epidemic measures introduced in connection with the epidemic spread of COVID 2019 should be mentioned,” the message says. "This includes the use of masks, hand rubbing with dermal antiseptics, and keeping distancing."
