Sevastopol began to receive 30 thousand cubic meters of water per day from three alternative sources, said the governor of the city Mikhail Razvozhaev. According to him, this will save the resources of the shallow city reservoir. Razvozhaev noted that the commissioning of a water pipeline from the Kadykovsky quarry is the first stage in providing the city with water.

“Today, two weeks earlier than the most optimistic deadline, thanks to the military builders of the RF Ministry of Defense, we began to withdraw water from the Kadykovsky quarry,” the governor wrote on his Instagram.

The Governor of Sevastopol noted that the commissioning of the complex for transferring water from the Kadykovsky quarry is "the first and one of the most important stages." “We have built almost 10 kilometers of the pipeline in 68 days! A unique floating pumping station has been manufactured, installed and launched,”he said.

According to him, the launch of the new water pipeline saves the resources of the shallow Chernorechensky reservoir and will allow it to hold out until spring without restrictions on water supply. “Today we are supplying 15 thousand [cubic meters]. About 10 thousand are already being taken from Gasfort Mountain and about five thousand from Inkerman. That is, we are saving a total of 30 thousand cubic meters per day in the Chernorechensky reservoir: consumption there has decreased from 80 to 50 thousand,”Razvozhaev said during the launch of the pipeline.

On December 19, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation handed over to the authorities of Sevastopol a water pipeline with a capacity of 15 thousand cubic meters per day. It was built in 68 days. The military laid 10 thousand meters of pipes from the Kadykovsky quarry. The governor of the city thanked the Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu and all the builders for their help in providing residents with fresh water. “We worked around the clock so that the residents of Sevastopol had water, so that the city could avoid restrictions in the supply of water,” Razvozhaev added.

In mid-October, the authorities of Sevastopol introduced a high alert mode due to water shortages, the city government said. It was noted that the resources will last for 81 days, since heavy precipitation is not expected until the end of the year. To increase water resources, it was decided to replace the water supply system and transfer water from the lake near Mount Gasfort to the Chernorechenskoye reservoir.

In 2014, Ukraine cut off the water supplied to Sevastopol and Crimea from the Kherson region. These resources provided up to 90% of the needs of the inhabitants of the peninsula. Therefore, now the population receives water only from local sources. In 2020, problems with water supplies are associated with aridity in the region. In October 2020, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree allocating 4.95 billion rubles to the peninsula for the creation of new water supply facilities.]>
