The new online checkout system, which transmits data to tax authorities, will be used to control food prices. «To ensure monitoring, the Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Ministry of Finance, will have to prepare a "road map" for the creation of a single directory-catalog of socially significant goods. This work will use the capabilities of the new online cash register system, which transmit sales data to the tax authorities in real time.», - noted in the message.

The Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, as reported in the document, must complete the work by January 15, 2021. Mishustin said that he would personally monitor the situation with food prices, and asked the ministers to report on the situation at operational meetings every week.

In addition, by December 14, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Agriculture are obliged to submit to the government draft specific regulations. By December 21, the Ministry of Economic Development should determine the details of the project to create a system for monitoring prices for socially significant goods, including taking into account the data of Rosstat and the Federal Tax Service.

On the eve, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin demanded from officials a quick reaction to the rise in food prices. Earlier, he criticized the activities of the ministries, which, according to him, underestimated the risks of rising food prices. He turned to the government after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a price hike.

On December 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev, pointed out that many Russians lack money to buy food. The President recalled that there was a deficit in the USSR, but now the problem with access to food remains, but due to high food prices.
