In Germany, the exchange of old German marks for euros continues. Unlike many other countries, the DPA news agency reminds, here this procedure is not limited by any deadlines.

So, this year, including November, the Germans in Berlin and Brandenburg alone exchanged more than 2.6 million old marks. And to be very precise, the federal bank issued EUR 1.323 million for the 2 582 972 marks and 56 pfennigs handed over. Moreover, all these more than 18 years from the date of the introduction of the single European currency into circulation, the exchange rate remains unchanged - about 2 marks are relied on for one euro.

Nevertheless, despite the available opportunity, many are in no hurry to part with old German banknotes and coins. According to the data of the federal bank, referred to by the DPA, 12.4 billion marks (6.34 billion euros) remain in the hands of the population throughout the country. As bank officials have meticulously calculated, this is 5.79 billion in banknotes and 6.61 billion in coins.

Of course, most of the old German money was exchanged for euros during the introduction of this currency. But it turns out, and now, 18 years later, the agency writes, the citizens of Germany still find hidden old German stamps in drawers, books, cellars or somewhere in a secluded place in the garden.
