Makeup has always been viewed as a way to hide imperfections in skin: we are used to seeing glossy models with perfectly flat faces, sparkling eyes and lips. At the same time, everyone understands that only a few have perfect skin, and beautiful photographs are the result of long efforts of stylists and photographers. Now the beauty industry has turned in the other direction - more and more attention is paid not to how to disguise skin problems, but, on the contrary, how to solve them.

Scientists from the University of Bangor in North Wales conducted a study, in the course of which they found out that the prevailing opinion that a girl with makeup supposedly looks more attractive is nothing more than a myth. So, according to the research, 40% of the respondents of both sexes think the opposite: naturalness appeals to them more. “The crux of the study is this: Our beliefs about what the opposite sex finds attractive are often inaccurate, whether it is for height, weight or makeup. Misconceptions play a role in body perception and self-respect and, unfortunately, are based on simple misunderstandings,”said Dr. Alex Jones of the School of Psychology. The research was inspired by a campaign with the hashtag #nomakeupselfie on Instagram, in which girls posted selfies without makeup. Now if you follow the hashtag, you can see more than 400 thousand publications.

Makeup won't solve skin problems

Another important component of “make-up without makeup” is the shift from make-up to proper skin care products. It is important to think not about how to hide acne or skin imperfections, but how to deal with them. Everyone solves this problem in their own way: if skin problems are caused by hormonal reasons, then you need to visit an endocrinologist who will prescribe the necessary drugs for treatment. If we talk specifically about the problems of care, then recently there are more and more different products that focus, for example, on the “naturalness” of the product - environmentally friendly products without parabens. Cosmetic brands also include experts in their promotions who blog about how to take proper care of their skin.

This, for example, is Paula Begun's blog “Paula Choice” - the author of more than twenty books on skin and hair care, as well as the creator of her own cosmetics brand. Paula talks about ingredients used in cosmetics and gives advice on skin care.

Another blogger Caroline Hirons, who has worked in the cosmetics industry for more than thirty years, writes detailed reviews of cosmetics in different price segments. In addition to reviews, she also provides professional advice on how to care for different types of skin and what ingredients in cosmetics should be avoided. The publications are based on personal experience, as well as consultations with doctors and cosmetologists.

In the Russian-speaking segment, you can pay attention to the blog Ateviss, as well as the public VKontakte "Acne club". They are about how to make the skin healthy, and they are led by Svetlana Korotchenko, who herself has been struggling with acne for a long time. Korotchenko talks about his experience, records conversations with specialists, and also makes his own reviews of skin care products.

Diligently orchestrated negligence

Recently, decorative make-up also tends to be as if completely invisible. So, for example, to create nude makeup, makeup artists advise you to choose shades that are similar in color to your skin, and also reduce the number of accents. For example, the eyebrows can not be drawn with a pencil, but the emphasis on the lips, or vice versa. An excellent effect of naturalness is created by contouring with blush - to give the make-up relief, you need to use different shades of blush and a highlighter to match.

The so-called wet skin effect is also achieved with the help of decorative cosmetics. This trend was born in South Korea and is about making the skin look as smooth as possible and as if glassy and glowing from the inside. Before applying makeup, you should use a peel or exfoliant cream to prepare your skin. Then comes a moisturizing serum, followed by a moisturizer and a light foundation (the main thing is not to matte).

Other modifications of “makeup without makeup” are, first of all, the minimalism of the means used. In other words, give up the usual and basic components in favor of one thing: bright shadows without painted eyelashes or raised eyebrows, balm instead of lipstick, translucent textures instead of contour, light concealer instead of foundation.
