The Islamic State (IS) * claimed responsibility for the attack in Vienna. This was stated by the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors the activity of terrorist and extremist groups on the Internet. Also in Switzerland, two people were detained in connection with an attack in the Austrian capital.

Foreign media reported that a terrorist organization called one of the attackers a "soldier of the Caliphate."

Earlier, Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said that at least one militant who sympathized with the Islamic State was involved in the attack. He stressed that the attack was planned in advance - this was established after a search of the apartment of one of the radicals.

“Yesterday we experienced an attack by at least one Islamist terrorist. A situation that we have not experienced in Austria for decades. The identified criminal was armed with an explosive belt, which turned out to be a dummy, and a rifle. The perpetrator was radical and claimed to be associated with the terrorist group IS Nehammer said.

Two citizens with Swiss citizenship were previously detained near Zurich in the case of an attack in the Austrian capital.

“During the investigation, the police identified the suspects: 18-year-old and 24-year-old Swiss citizens. Both of them were detained on Tuesday - said the police in Zurich.

Now law enforcement agencies are looking into how the detainees were connected with the terrorist who attacked people in Vienna.

On the evening of November 2, unknown assailants opened fire and detonated an explosive device near a synagogue in Vienna. According to the police, the attack was staged by several heavily armed people who, after the attack, fled the scene. As a result of the attack, five people were killed and another 22 were injured. The city authorities asked citizens to stay at home, and also not to distribute photos and videos of the work of the special services.
