Ashley Park, 29, best known for her role in the new Netflix hit "Emily in Paris," made an unexpected confession about her health problems.
The actress told how, at the age of 15, doctors diagnosed her with leukemia - a type of cancer in which bone marrow cells mutate, not developing into normal mature leukocytes, but becoming cancer cells. Simply put, young Ashley was diagnosed with blood cancer.
Park admitted that she considers her experience of dealing with a fatal disease positive, and is confident that it can inspire other people not to give up if they ever find themselves in a similar situation.
“People often remind me of my experiences with cancer, and I don't mind talking about it. I think it's worth talking about such things publicly, but I'm embarrassed if people are trying to find out some very personal moments from my experience,”Ashley said in an interview with the American Cosmopolitan.
The Emily in Paris star clarified that as an actress of Asian descent, she always tried to fight any stereotypes.
“I never wanted to be 'another Asian girl on TV.' But then I suddenly turned into a bald, cancer girl. Fortunately, my body eventually defeated the disease. But I always remember that I have to be especially attentive to my health,”summed up Ashley.
