WASHINGTON, November 10. / TASS /. The United States imposes visa restrictions on illegal timber and wildlife traders. This is stated in a written statement released on Tuesday by the first deputy head of the press service of the State Department, Keil Brown.

"Today [Tuesday] the United States is announcing the first-of-its-kind visa restrictions on those illegally involved in the timber and wildlife trade. The illegal trade in wild animals and timber is a serious international organized criminal activity that threatens national security and undermines economic prosperity, breeds corruption and spreads disease, "the diplomat said.

"This new mechanism will help disrupt the movement and business of international criminal organizations, making it harder for them to smuggle wildlife and timber," added Brown. He did not give a specific list of persons against whom visa restrictions were imposed, explaining only that the sanctions would also affect their family members. Under the restrictions of the US Foreign Office, they will not be allowed to visit the United States.
