The Trend Micro Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) this week announced the objectives, rewards and rules for this year's Pwn2Own competition in Vancouver. Let's clarify that the competition for hackers will be held from 6 to 8 April.
This time, due to the COVID-19 coronavirus infection pandemic, Pwn2Own will be held in a mixed format. Researchers will be able to send their exploits remotely, and ZDI staff in Toronto and Austin will launch them. All this action will be broadcast live on YouTube and Twitch.
The Pwn2Own 2021 prize fund exceeded $ 1.5 million in cash, and participants can also win other prizes, including a Tesla Model 3. It should be borne in mind that only those researchers who find vulnerabilities in the relevant industry (the automotive industry) can get an electric car.
For example, you can try to hack the same Tesla car, which will bring, if successful, $ 600,000. There will be three difficulty levels in this category, Tesla Model 3 can be won in each of them.
In addition, ZDI has prepared a new category for researchers: for demonstrating fully working exploits for vulnerabilities in Zoom or Microsoft Teams, hackers can earn up to $ 200,000.
"In this case, specialists must demonstrate the compromise of the target application using an audio call, video conference or text message," the organizers of the competition noted.
