The farmers of the Federation Council gathered to fight the penetration of the poisonous hogweed into the Arctic. Alexey Mayorov, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, told about this "Moscow speaks".
“If the information is confirmed, we will have another challenge that we will have to overcome. If all this is confirmed, the topic should cause concern,”said the senator.
He recalled that now the hogweed is a serious problem for the inhabitants of Central Russia. According to him, when growing, the plant will negatively affect the ecosystem of the Arctic zone. You can fight it through mowing and processing with chemicals.
Mayorov suggested that in this case, weed control would go to the federal level. The question will be in the jurisdiction of the government, it will be necessary to monitor the situation and adopt a roadmap.
Earlier, scientists from the Scientific Center for the Study of the Arctic reported that the seeds of the hogweed were introduced to Yamal, the area of its growth reached the latitudes of Cape Kamenny and Seyakhi. Presumably, the seeds came to the Arctic along with the equipment.
