It was decided to involve debtors on alimony in the Leningrad region in the fight against cow parsnip. In 2020, the action was recognized as successful in one of the rural settlements of the region. Now they want to extend it to the entire region. Governor of the region Alexander Drozdenko made a proposal to include the destruction of hogweed in the list of public works, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported, citing the press service of the regional government. The action "Did not pay alimony - mow the hogweed" in 2020 was held in the Telmanovsky rural settlement, where defaulters were sent to mow a plant that causes burns along the banks of the Izhora River. The destruction of hogweed with chemicals is prohibited there. In 2021, the Leningrad Region will spend 65 million rubles on weed control. This amount is two and a half times more than last year. 97 municipalities from 16 districts of the region will participate in the program. In February 2020, the Federation Council proposed to fine citizens for hogweed in summer cottages and household plots, RIA Novosti wrote. The amount of fines for individuals, according to the senators, should be 2,000-3,000 rubles, and for legal entities - 20,000-30,000 rubles. In the meantime, only residents of Moscow and the Moscow region face punishment for failure to harvest Sosnovsky's hogweed. Hogweed is a weed plant of the umbrella family, which has about 70 species. Some of them pose a danger to humans, as they contain substances that cause severe photochemical burns.
