Dermaplaning is becoming more and more popular, according to the assurances of the fans of the procedure, it helps to eliminate dullness of the skin and make it soft to the touch. But is it really so?

According to the online publication Women’s Health, Asian women invented shaving their face before applying makeup back in the early 2010s, but she reached her peak of popularity when beauty bloggers on YouTube began to massively resort to this life hack. This process is called dermaplaning and is designed to remove dead particles and fine vellus hairs from the surface of the skin. By the way, this trick is not new at all: Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor were his fans, but the tools and methods have definitely evolved.

Why bother with vellus hairs at all, you ask? “This will make the skin look smoother and the makeup will stick better. This is a form of physical dermabrasion that also tightens pores, improves skin tone and texture,”explains Joyce Imahierbo-Il, MD and owner of her own dermatology clinic, adding that the hair on a woman's face is thicker and thicker from regular shaving. definitely will not - this is a myth.

Unlike laser and wax hair removal, shaving does not harm the skin at all, but you do not need to use your boyfriend's razor at home, but a special tool to avoid cuts. The main rule is to be careful and have a firm hand. It is necessary to “scrape off” the surface layer of the skin with a special blade, which must be kept strictly at an angle of 45 degrees. This should be done, starting from the edge of the cheeks to the center, then running along the forehead and chin. The procedure is performed on dry skin, so it will look like you have cleaned a pile of dust from your face. When finished, apply a serum and moisturizer. After the first try, you will notice that the complexion will become fresher, and the texture will be even.

However, experts warn that this technique cannot be combined with the use of other exfoliating agents and retinoids, otherwise it will damage the skin. It is also worth avoiding cosmetics with acids and physical scrubs two days before and after the planned dermaplaning, and the procedure should be carried out no more than once every 2 weeks, and preferably once a month. It is worth noting that the skin becomes more sensitive after shaving, therefore the use of sunscreens is recommended to avoid hyperpigmentation. You should not abuse the procedure either - this can lead to hyperkeratosis and coarsening of the epidermis.
