According to the insurance companies AOK and Barmer, inpatient treatment for coronavirus in Germany costs an average of 10.7 thousand euros. The relevant information was published in the newspaper Welt am Sonntag. More than 26 million people use AOK services in the country, about 9 million people are insured in Barmer. The chairman of the board of the federal association AOK Martin Leach noted that the treatment costs around 5 thousand euros. However, the cost increases if it is necessary to connect the patient to the ventilator. "Our data show that patients with COVID-19, who must be connected to a ventilator, due to the partly severe course of the disease, on average, cause costs of 38.5 thousand euros," Leach said. According to Barmer, it costs about 31.7 thousand euros to treat a patient with COVID-19 connected to a ventilator. Without it, patient care costs 6.9 thousand euros.
