The Ministry of Industry of Stavropol began looking for investors for the Optron-Stavropol enterprise, which specializes in production for the defense sector. Due to the lack of orders, the plant plans to stop work from April 1.

“The stoppage of the production cycle is due to the lack of orders for products due to the excessive provision of customers - defense sector enterprises - with the required amount of power optoelectronics for several years. In order to preserve the unique enterprise and prevent its closure, the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Communications of the Stavropol Territory is looking for investors to purchase a production process with patents and developments,”the press service of the ministry told reporters.

The department notes that Russian defense enterprises have already been notified of the situation at the Stavropol plant. “Despite these difficulties, the enterprise managed to master the production of a number of power semiconductor devices that are competitive with imported counterparts. However, in order to reconfigure all the plant's capacities for the production of civilian and competitive products, modernization is required, which is not provided for by the investment plans of the owners,”the Ministry of Industry of the Territory explained.

The plant's website says that Optron-Stavropol is the oldest Russian enterprise that produces power semiconductor devices. In 2019, the plant expanded its range. Its products are used for the transformation and regulation of electrical energy in nuclear power, oil and gas equipment, medical technology, robotics, and so on.
